(When I Was A Little Boy) 01:39 Release Notes: The big news here is what a gem of a find this is. Beagle Hat is a project from David Patton, along with a group of Japanese artists to round out the band.. Who's David Patton, most of you will ask? Well, for the over 40-sect, he was the lead singer for Pilot, mid-70's AM pop influenced by poppy Queen(of that time period) and stunning vocal displays. You'll hear lots Beatles-influenced ELO-esque sounds here(best heard on "Wrecker Pulls Away"). Beagle Hat, in many parts, will sound like a long, lost Pilot record. Not some throwaways found 25 years later, but the sound of the band recording at their peak. There's bits of early/mid 70's glam, acoustic pop, Alan Parsons-esque FM radio staples and another styling or two on the 14 songs here, but with its swirling keyboards and falsetto vocals, Magical Hat shines as a great vehicle for Patton's talents and his band is up to the task, on all counts. Do yourself a favor and dig on in with the soundbites below and hear what your ears think. This kind of pop is not done that often these days and, when it's done, it's done poorly because the vocals and songs just can't hold up to the standards set by people like David Patton 30 years ago.
