Although its been some time since he left the band - who recorded their debut and follow-up with Capps in 1999 and 2000 respectively -- he proves that it was worth the wait for his debut solo record. Apparent on Walk Through The Walls is his appreciation for retro honky-tonk of the Johnny Cash and Hank Williams variety. But his rockabilly roots and contemporary country leanings show through as well throughout this lively and warm set produced by longtime associate Lou Whitney (Morells, Eric Ambel, Del Lords). Working a rich low-tenor through a few cover tunes, mixed with the bulk of his own equally strong material, Capps does justice to songs by such notable writers as Rodney Crowell ("Standing On A Rock") and Merle Travis ("The Devil To Pay", "Dark As A Dungeon"). His own compositions, such as "I Wouldnt Say Thats Living", "True Liar" and "The Bottom", are classically designed and all shine from the hot guitar work of D. Clinton Thompson (Morells, Skeletons, Dallas Wayne), who rumbles and twangs his way from top to bottom.
