Sold American 06:35 Release Notes: Stillhouse is a North Carolina super-group, of sorts, established back in the late `90s by singer-songwriter Dave Wilson. Wilson, along with Stillhouse`s pedal-steel and key man Greg Readling, found a successful diversion since then with Chatham County Line. But this long overdue debut veers off considerably from Chatham`s acoustic country/folk charm by exploring groovy and deep `70s-era roots-rich rock. Wilson`s outstanding material is heartfelt, organic and moving as heck, sweetly vibed with the addition of bassist Jay Brown (Tift Merritt), drummer Zeke Hutchins (Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnnie Irion, Tift Merritt, Thad Cockrell) and the talented Johnny Irion on guitar. Hints of The Band are heard in the stirring "It`s The Shame", while some tunes burst out with gritty rock swagger ("Waiting To See", "Changes") in The Faces vein. Whispery strains of Southern-rock and power-pop can be heard here and there, as well as some contemporary garage blues, as in the dirty rocker "Home". But the strength and allure of "Through The Winter" is Wilson`s voice, along with everyone else`s harmony vocals. This coupled with the fantastic performances from the band, set this effort apart from anything else like it. So exceptional is this record it might temporarily knock your Ryan Adam`s discs down a peg or two.
