Believe In Me 03:34 Release Notes: 2005 sophmore release from Austin`s The Golden Apples is......a flat-out stunner! Lead off track "Big Star" says it all.....sounding like Badfinger playing "Radio City" from Big Star, literally! Lots of jangle, pure pop hook chops, nirvana-induced melodies and call and response vocals and a tight band locking it all in. The rest of the album`s other 13 songs keep it close to that spirit is the very, very good news. Like their debut, Smooth, clean vocals, multi-part harmonies and instantly indelible hooks float this release way above the pack but we`ll push this self-released gem to the very head of indie power pop releases of 2005 and make note to see if it lands in our Top 10 or 20 of the year come December. It`s that good! Besides the Badfinger and Big Star janglings all over the place, The Knack, The Records, Cheap Trick, Guided By Voices, The Plimsouls, and 20/20 all come into place here. (for the more obscure, I hear some of fellow Austin band Coffee Seargants pop charms here, too.....a cool band for many of you to track down) So, yes, there`s a lot of power pop nostalgia and celebration going on here, but when you listen to it, you know it`s 2005. That`s the charming key to "Cooler Jets Will Prevail"`s ultimate achieving success. Big Time Extremely Highly Recommended.
