 Г One of the biggest games in Europe last year_Grand Theft Auto_never made  Г
 Г much of a splash in the United States, part in thanks to a delayed        Г
 Г release by its US publisher, ASC Games.                                   Г

 Г But the game was controversial in Europe, sparking a predictable outcry   Г
 Г from UK newspapers, and just this week a number of French retailers have  Г
 Г begun pulling it from shelves. Why? Because of the game's criminal        Г
 Г content_the name of the game is stealing cars, running over pedestrians,  Г
 Г and acting as a courier for the mob.                                      Г

 Г The feel of the game is a bit retro, having the top-down look of a Micro  Г
 Г Machines or Death Rally. But sometimes simpler is better, and GTA's       Г
 Г combination of fast-paced arcade action, a living, breathing virtual city Г
 Г (your car thefts will be complicated by traffic and pedestrians and the   Г
 Г city's watchful police), and the ability to get in and out of different   Г
 Г vehicles made for a smartly tight game.                                   Г

 Г So it's not surprising that Grand Theft Auto has earned not only a        Г
 Г sequel_Grand Theft Auto 2_but also an expansion pack, called Grand Theft  Г
 Г Auto_London 1969.                                                         Г

 Г The expansion pack is a pretty basic, no frills affair: the same basic    Г
 Г engine and gameplay are included, though there's also a brand new         Г
 Г setting, thirty new missions, new cars, and a hopping new soundtrack.     Г
 Г What's new is the setting_instead of the gritty streets of contemporary   Г
 Г New York, the add-on goes off into London of the 1960s. Austin Powers,    Г
 Г here we come.                                                             Г

 Г Working for the British mob, you'll run errands for such crimelords as    Г
 Г Harold Cartwright, Jack Parkinson, and two obnoxious Cockneys, the Crisp  Г
 Г Brothers. Vehicles of choice this time will range from a convertible      Г
 Г sports car (painted like the Union Jack, baby) to stretch limos and the   Г
 Г old-fashioned London taxis.                                               Г
