You will need to Ί Ί add the two registry files, REG1.REG and REG2.REG, to your registry by Ί Ί either double clicking on them, doing a RUN REG1.REG and RUN REG2.REG, or Ί Ί going into the registry itself and doing an IMPORT. You will then need to Ί Ί go to HKEY_CURRENT_USERS, SOFTWARE, ACCOLADE, LEGENDS 98, and change the Ί Ί Base Path & CD Path to the directory you UnRared to. Make sure a \ is Ί Ί added after the directory in the CD Path. Basically follow the same Ί Ί format the directories which are there are in. Close the registry and run Ί Ί LEGEND98.EXE to play the game. Once the game is loaded, go to GAME Ί Ί OPTIONS, SOUND LEVEL, and turn Play by Play OFF. Not doing this will Ί Ί cause the game to crash the first time the Commentator speaks. The change Ί Ί will be saved, so only do it once. The Player Editor is located in the Ί Ί \GAME\PLAYS directory and is called PLAYEDIT.EXE The explanation for why Ί Ί it was done this way is almost as complicated as the install instructions. Ί Ί What it boiled down to was you would have needed an EXTRA 600 megs to do Ί Ί a COMPLETE install through the windows setup. Not many people have 1 GIG Ί Ί free at any one given time, which would have made it more difficult to Ί Ί install this game on your average machine. The reason WinRAR was used is Ί Ί there are over 4000 files in this game, and RAR for DOS could not seem to Ί Ί handle that man. ARJ for DOS compressed it fine, but when decompressing Ί Ί it would error out around disk 55 so you would have to stop, and then Ί Ί start decompressing again from .A54 instead of .ARJ. While I am telling Ί Ί you all this, I might as well explain how this was ripped and what was Ί Ί removed. The INTRO.SMK was the first thing to go, which was replaced with Ί Ί a dummy file. Second was the play by play file, COMMENT.FIL (110 Megs). Ί Ί Third was the music which was about 20 .WAV files which were used for the Ί Ί different ERAs in the game. The 1930's had a few, the 60's had a few, etc. Ί Ί These only played during the setting up/loading of a game. Fourth was the Ί Ί Stadium animations and picture files. These were played right before the Ί Ί game would start and were replaced with a black and white screen. Removing Ί Ί any of the above files would lead to the game crashing, so the call to the Ί Ί files had to be patched in the .EXE A patch for the game to update the Ί Ί stats will be made available on Accolades web page in the coming months so Ί Ί be sure to check for that.
