PLAYING THE GAME

[THE INTERFACE]

1. To LOOK around, move the hand cursor LEFT and RIGHT.
You can speed up or slow down the speed of the rotation
by pressing the + or - key. To LOOK UP or DOWN move the
hand cursor to the top or bottom of the screen in a location.
Your view will automatically shift up or down if there is
such a view in that location.

GAMMA CONTROL. Pressing the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys on
the keyboard will brighten or darken the gamma factor on
your monitor image. It will brighten in steps until it
maximises. The brighter the gamma, the more visible the
details of the environment. Press the PAGE DOWN key to
darken the gamma. It will darken in steps until it minimises.

2. To MOVE about, left click the mouse when you see the
SHOES icon. You may interrupt a movie by left clicking the
mouse.

3. To PICK UP something, left click the mouse when the
GRASPING HAND icon appears.

4. To VIEW something, left click the mouse when the
TELESCOPE icon appears. You may interrupt a movie by
clicking the left mouse button.

5. To HEAR something, left click the mouse when the
VICTROLA icon appears. You may interrupt an audio file
by left clicking the mouse.

6. If a door is LOCKED you must find the key to open it.
Right click the mouse on the door to hear a description
of the key that is needed to open the door.

7. If a door is BLOCKED with a circle/slash icon, it means
that this location is not available on the game level you
are currently playing.

8. If an HOUR GLASS icon appears, the system is busy,

9. KEYBOARD COMMANDS:

PAUSE - Selecting the PAUSE key pauses the game. In pause
mode, your game's "key" code will be displayed on the
screen. This key code is necessary to activate the
Millenium Freebies that can be obtained at:
http://oflightanddarkness.com. Freebies, or "powerups",
that can help you defeat Gar Hob.

ESC - Selecting the ESC key takes you to the game booth.
Selecting the ESC key while in the game booth takes you
back to your place in the game.

INSERT - Selecting the INSERT key captures a 640x480
picture of your current location in the game and saves it
to your hard drive. These pictures can be captured anywhere
in the game.

SPACE BAR - Selecting the SPACE BAR causes items in INVENTORY
to be used. These can include ORBS, PORTALS and ARTIFACTS.
Pressing the SPACE BAR can also interrupt an audio file or
video movie.

PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN - Selecting the PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN keys
brightens or darkens the Gamma factor of your computer monitor
image.

ARROW UP/ARROW DOWN - Selecting the ARROW UP or ARROW DOWN
changes the size of the image of the game on your screen, up
or down. The smaller the image, the faster the game will run
on slower machines.

+/- KEYS - Selecting the + or - KEY, speeds up or slows down
the rotation motion at locations.

PASSWORDS - A password can only be made up of letters. It is
activated by clicking the RETURN key. PASSWORDS activate the
Millenium Freebies found at oflightanddarkness.com. Freebies
can help you defeat Gar Hob.
