They can be excused for this, ³ ³ since the error message only appears if you are playing someone that ³ ³ is using the original version of the game, not the cracked one. Of ³ ³ course, we wouldn't want to limit all you multiplayer fans to playing ³ ³ people with the cracked version, so we've whipped up this fix that ³ ³ allows you to play whoever you like. ³ ³ ³ ³ We also included the full strategy guide that was on the original CD ³ ³ that Paradigm (for some reason ???) decided not to include in their ³ ³ release. ³ ³ ³ ³ To install the multiplayer fix, simply copy the OP2MPFIX.EXE into your ³ ³ OUTPOST2 directory (or wherever you installed it) and run it. ³ ³ ³ ³ To install the full Strategy Guide, simply unzip the two archives into ³ ³ a temporary directory, then type: ³ ³ ³ ³ unrar x -v -y OP2GUIDE.001 C:\OUTPOST2 ³ ³ ³ ³ You can then load up the various .DOC files in Microsoft Word, or ³ ³ WordView. Enjoy! ³ ³ ³ ³ Cracker's Notes ³ ³ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ³ ³ ³ ³ The non-protection oriented reason for Sierra including these CRC ³ ³ checks is to prevent two people from playing each other with different ³ ³ versions of the game (i.e. future patches and upgrades). To ³ ³ maintain this "compatibility" check, I decided not to completely ³ ³ remove the CRC checks, but to "fake" the CRC values to always report ³ ³ the values that were calculated on the original files. This way, the ³ ³ game always appears to be "the original", but will still refuse to ³ ³ play with other upgraded versions of the game. ³ ³ ³ ³ A side benefit of this method of patching it is that all trainers, ³ ³ and other .EXE-based cheats will not affect multi-player play on the ³ ³ cracked version of the game.
