We hate rag wars. And so do you. Unfortunately, Divine decided to "flex it's releasing muscle" (chuckle-chuckle) and bad-mouth RAZOR at the same time. Make sure you have something to back up your claims, and when you release a game, PLAY IT. First Myth, now Red Baron 2. This game, in it's original format is fairly decent and has plenty of animation, music and basic SFX. Divine, in essence, raped it. Removing music and movies are fine, but NOT when they are integral to game play. Albeit that the SPA hasn't carved rules in stone regarding what is considered "functional" in a release (this will be resolved soon), we at RAZOR believed that common sense would prevail. This is obviously not the case with Divine. What was removed from the Divine release? All animations (which actually act as game graphics on some menus), all of the background graphics for the menus (What were you thinking?!?) which causes garbled graphics to appear on some menus, music, speech and all multiplayer functionality (Why do a 3-disk add-on?). This kind of thing is completely unacceptable to users that want to play a PROPERLY ripped game (and believe me, I've got the e-mail to prove it): some groups have got it into their heads that it is OK to release a game quickly, even if it is screwed up, then release a "fix" or "addon" later, just so they can claim credit for a release. It's called "cheating" boys. It is unfair to users that spend the time downloading the games, and unfair to other groups that spend the extra time to properly rip the game. I quote from the DIVINE.NFO file for Red Baron 2: "What ever happened to that famous razor cracking force? Ripping the game was to hard eh guy's? Clue in, amateurs. RIPPING the game is hard, RAPING it (a talent you have shown great prowess in) is easy. Yes, the .VOL files were indexed and compressed. Yes, it was not a simple matter to "rip" these files. But uncompressing the .VOL files was the ONLY way to get this release under 75 disks (we were in the process of doing just this), without sacrificing playability and (I can't believe I'm saying this...) MENU GRAPHICS. 'Nuff said. We at RAZOR have taken to time to create a releasable version of Red Baron 2, but rather than re-release the whole title, we have created a "patch update" for those of you that were unfortunate enough to download Divine's release. This will convert Divine's release into something playble, including 1-frame movies we custom-cut to give you some idea of what the animations were about, full menu graphics, an updated multiplayer .EXE (that Divine should have included, if they had bothered to test Internet play), and various other missing graphics. To install the update, simply un-RAR the files into your existing Red Baron 2 directory, overwriting any files you have to. Divine also left their BARONMP.EXE and some other files read-only, so you may have to do an ATTRIB -R /S to reset the read-only flag on these files before un-RARing. You should then run FIXIT.BAT, which will properly set up your registry (Divine screwed up their .REG file as well...you need 2 "\"'s on REG_SZ entries), and will patch the DATA\RBSHELL.VOL file to add the missing graphics back in.
