101% FIX for Test Drive 6 - DVN [ TBK ] -- tbklair@hotmail.com The Problem: DIVINE's batch files were created on a UNIX system and have the following problems: 1) No carriage returns (would be an easy fix, just open in EDIT and save) 2) WRONG SLASHES IN SETUP2.BAT!! Cmon guys, we are targeting WinDOS systems here. Backslashes, not forward! In addition, some of the Jpegs that the textures were compressed to had the hidden attribute set, so when the batches used PKZIP to reconstruct the original textures, it missed some! And on top of this, the textures.dir in the filesystem for the London track is 0 bytes! No wonder it can't find the right textures! DVN included this file in the setup.zip but failed to put it in the right place, so then all the other tracks would be screwed up afterwards. Sigh.... --------- THE FIX: --------- Use this zip instead of DVN's crap setup.zip... nuke theirs. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY USED DVN'S SETUP AND SETUP2, YOU MUST REINSTALL THE GAME FROM SCRATCH!!! I have fixed the slashes in DOS commands in Setup2.bat (PKZIP and DJPEG don't care which slashes you use, so I left those). The files now have proper carriage returns. I also added a command at the top of the first batch that will remove all hidden/system/readonly attributes for all files in the TD6 path. Finally, the crap textures.dir and the textures for London are put in the proper receptacle and replaced with good ones. The Comments: This was too damn easy to fix DIVINE. If you're going to rag on ORIGIN, shouldn't you make sure your own releases work 100% first? Even the slightest amount of testing would have picked this up (textures are just missing altogether while playing the game). Also, the fact that the batch files had the wrong slashes and no CR's make me think that they went straight from a Unix box to the enduser with no testing in between... I hope that's not the case, but please try to be more testing-oriented in the future. I hope the problem was that you stayed up extra-long hours trying to get this release out and a tired packager missed a beat, not because you're bad :-) Signing off...
