The promised network/link patch that FINALLY makes º º your copy of WarCraft II work in all modes. Just unpack and run INSTALL, º º make sure the install path is to your WC2 dir. As a reconciliation gift we º º have also included a simple trainer program (money/buildspeed). Just run º º 'TRAINER' from your WarCraft II directory and that should do the trick. º º º º This release has caused quite some indignation as we first released one º º non-working version and then a single player fix, which we later dis- º º covered to be lacking a few features. Before some of you put out more º º fake virus-infected garbage, let us tell you OUR side of the story. º º º º When I (Cyber) first got the program I had neither the speech- nor the º º mudfile. I didn't even know they existed. I soon discovered that the º º CD-check consisted of searching for these two files and validating their º º contents, but I was informed that they contained nothing but samples, so º º I thought I could get along without them. I therefor removed all refe- º º rences to these files, and the game worked! In single player mode, that is.º º When I next tried to make the link work, I was first delayed some time be- º º cause I didn't have a cable (too expensive to crack on-line :-) ). When I º º later got one (thanks, Hoson!) I simply couldn't start it, no matter what Iº º did. Then TDU-JAM released their version WITH this 20meg speechfile and I º º realised that this file was, somehow, vital. I got hold of it and my º º suspicions were confirmed: of the 20meg approx. 19.999 consisted of sam- º º ples BUT the remaining 500 bytes were menu object data required by the gameº º FUCK! So I removed the samples, reorganized the internal directory and º º recracked the game, this time keeping all the references to the speechfile º º (which, by the way, now contains only one 1-byte sample). It worked! º º º º That's the story, and I apologize if this intermezzo has caused any of you º º any inconvenience, but that's the way it is when you have to guess what º º the game looks like in its original state. I'm only human, right?
