Best known for her collaboration with veteran songwriter and performer Chip Taylor, the duo released three albums together including 2005’s critically acclaimed Red Dog Tracks. Rolling Stone lauded the pair as “…a rootsier Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra.” Back Porch Records is set to release Rodriguez’s solo debut August 15. A national tour will be announced shortly. Recorded in New York City at Avatar Studios in the winter of 2006, Seven Angels on a Bicycle features renowned jazz, rock and bluegrass musicians including GRAMMY® award winner Bill Frisell on electric guitar, Greg Leisz on pedal steel guitar and Viktor Krauss on upright bass. The album’s 12 original songs reflect both the sophistication of her classical training and the raw simplicity of her folk-rock upbringing. Rodriguez opens the album with the title track, a song inspired by the untimely and tragic death of a good friend. Tracks such as “Never Gonna Be Your Bride” and “I Don’t Wanna Play House Anymore” highlight her upbeat, June Carter like sense of humor whereas “St. Peters” flawlessly shifts from a heartbreaking ballad to rootsy Americana and back again, culminating with the her soft and intimate croon to close the album. Born in Austin, TX and raised on a broad range of pop, traditional and classical music, Rodriguez began training on the violin at age five while simultaneously developing a taste for fiddling under the influence of her father, singer/songwriter David Rodriguez. She was awarded a scholarship to Oberlin Conservatory of Music and moved on to graduate from the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Discovered in 2001 at the SXSW music conference, Chip Taylor (of “Wild Thing” and “Angels of the Morning” fame) invited Rodriguez to play fiddle with him and soon after asked her to join him as both a singer and collaborator. She has also recorded with Patty Griffin and performed live with Lyle Lovett and John Prine among others.
