Sunny Tuesday 4:25 Release Notes: Neneh Cherry, daughter of late celebrated Jazz trumpeter & innovative world musician Don Cherry and Swedish artist Moki Cherry, sister of singer/songwriter and Carlos Santana collaborator Eagle-Eye Cherry. First attracted attention via a collaboration with all girl punk group 'The Slits'. She went on to sing lead with avantguard Jazz Punk groups ‘Rip Rig & Panic' and 'Float up CP'. She sang lead on the classic 'The The' hit 'Slow train to dawn' then went solo for the first time (as the first lady of legendary Ray Petri's creative organisation "Buffalo") with the hits 'Buffalo stance', 'Manchild' and 'Inna city mamma' from her first album 'Raw like Sushi' during which she made pop history by appearing seven months pregnant on 'Top of the Pops'. While promoting 'Raw like Sushi' Cherry met legendary Bristol trip hop group 'Massive attack' and collaborated with them on their classic first album 'Blue lines' to eventually help bring them to the world's attention via her production company 'The Cherry Bear organisation' (Cherry's company also spawned the first 'Portishead' album 'Dummy'). Neneh then had a world wide smash with the song '7 seconds' which she wrote and sang with Senegalese singer 'Youssou N’Dour' and later the torch song which made Neneh Cherry a positive roll model for all women everywhere 'Woman' (recorded in both English & Spanish). After '7 seconds' Neneh retreated from the spotlight for a while to concentrate on her family; but has eased back into the swing of things of late by DJ'ing all over the world playing a carefully selected blend of new & old urban & eclectic music as part of the "Jugula sessions" team, recording with Groove Armada and Gorillaz and, probably more significantly, by joining the group CirKus who’s forthcoming first album 'Laylow' will be released early in 2006 during the rest of which Cherry and the rest of cirKus will be touring to support the record. There is also a good chance that the first single from Cherry's 4th solo album will be released at the very end of 2006 with the album itself to drop in early 2007. Neneh has been tirelessly supportive of the UN and it's work to try and irradicate Malaria from the African continent, work with and support those with Aids and pursued the west to ease their debt collection policies towards the third world in general. To this end she has recently started a second collaboration with UN ambassador Youssou N'Dour which will, hopefully, bear fruit in the form of a full album dedicated to raising awareness of both the negative and positive sides of Africa.
