He had moved from Wembley to The New World knowing that New York City would provide a fresh stimulus for his writing and he absorbed everything the US had to offer. The completed album was built thematically around Ian’s permanent move from Britain to the USA. Unusually, many of the lyrics were written in the third person and it appeared that Hunter had looked towards Bob Dylan, Randy Newman and John Lennon for some of his inspiration. 30 years later, Sony BMG release a 30th Anniversary edition of the classic album, which has been repackaged and contains 6 bonus session outtakes from the album, all previously unreleased. This version of the album is a Limited Edition Digipack containing new photographs and liner notes written by Campbell Devine. "All American Alien Boy" was Ian Hunter's second solo album, released in 1976 and described by Record Mirror at the time as "eight songs which are his most powerful and thoughtful yet".
