The album features work from vocalist Sy Smith (Brand New Heavies), Gavin Christopher, Jason Joseph, and Jill Zadeh -- plus some guest guitar from Craig T Cooper -- and despite the presence of so many different talents, it holds together with a really unified voice -- brought together beautifully through Martin's guidance in the studio, and coming off with a warm blend of jazz and soul that recalls the classic collaborations that went down in the LA scene of the late 70s. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Toronto, Canada, Ian Martin is primarily a songwriter, musician and producer with a talent for assembling talent around him and making quality soul with a hint of jazz. "The Way" is the follow up to 2000's "One" which was one of the most acclaimed albums that year and featured on the Soul Brother compilation "Organic Soul". Martin's main instrument is the bass guitar which he lends as lead on three instrumentals (including a stunning version of the SOS Band classic "Tell Me If You Still Care", but as before the album is a showcase of lead vocalists old and new. On "Brother" he features Gavin Christopher (voice of Herbie Hancock's "Stars In Your Eyes"), while newcomer Robin McKelle shines on "Movin' On" destined to be one of this year's biggest soulful dance tracks. The album has an 'organic' feel throughout with the cream of LA's musicians on hand on some classy arrangements.
