During Stax Records’ brief, 15-year history, the company was home to such legends as Otis Redding, Booker T & the MGs, Johnnie Taylor, The Staples Singers, Sam and Dave, and many others; however, none was bigger from the late 1960s into the mid 1970s than Hayes. Legendary tracks like the "Theme from Shaft," "Walk On By," and "Soulsville," the set are among the tracks included on the set. Also included is a DVD which includes three songs from Hayes’ August 20, 1972 performance at Wattstax in Los Angeles, California, as well as the video of "Chocolate Salty Balls" from Episode #209 of South Park, a show in which Hayes provides the voice of Chef.
