A massive 2CD dip into her legendary years at Salsoul and one that gives equal space to her club hits and mellower soul tracks. The club side of Loleatta's work is very well known, thanks to some breakout singles over the years and enduring club fame from her top-shelf work for Salsoul. The best of these are collected on CD 1 of the set which offers up 16 numbers itself including some rare mixes and out of print LP versions. Yet it's mellow soul side of Loleatta's career that's never as widely represented, and it thankfully gets its full due here on CD 2 (a 17 track exploration of the great ballads, tearjerkers, and deeper soul numbers that Loleatta also recorded at the same time as her club hits). Holloway first began recording in a more traditional southern soul mode and although the disco years had her stretching out with faster tempos, she also still cut plenty of great tunes in this older mode the best of which are heard on this set! ---------- CD1 is called 'Dance Loleatta' her disco hits (which along with labelmates First Choice & Inner Life's Jocelyn Brown became the voice of the legendary Salsoul sound). CD2 is called 'Love Loleatta' her soul hits (who she worked with the late greats such as Curtis Mayfield, Otis Redding, & Bobby Womack among others). Overall, it's a simply amazing addition to the new "anthology" series in the salsoul catalogs (SALSA-CD20). Be sure to also check out some recent remixes of her older work by Todd Terry and Masters At Work's Kenny Dope as well as new material like the Jocelyn Brown duet "A Better World" (remixed by Blaze).
