As The Separatists he has joined forces with two of Glasgow’s finest electronic producers, Marco Bernardi and John Hospital. The result is their debut album "Akilak", an innovative techno excursion that is full of killer tracks. Percy X makes a welcome return to Soma after his "Where’s The Music" album four years ago. Since then he has been working on various projects including tracks for Andrew Weatherall’s Firewire label and Djing extensively throughout Europe. The Separatists is the brainchild of Percy and he features on all of the tracks. Marco Bernardi is forging a reputation as one of the UK’s hottest electro producers with his amazing productions on labels like Clone, Frustrated Funk and Tom Churchill’s Emoticon. He also has releases forthcoming on Dexter’s Klakson and for Soma under the alias of Octogen. His debut release ‘Ligrgirl EP’ is already receiving amazing reviews and support. John Hospital is one of the members of Glasgow’s sinister electro surgeons Dirty Hospital. He is also part of the band Data Panic and runs Rottonrow Records. This doctor of doom contributes on four tracks on the album. These three accomplished producers have produced a fresh collection of awe inspiring techno that encapsulates the very best of Detroit, minimal and electro. The album begins with ‘Once In A Life’, a shimmering intro that sets the tone for the deep and melodic "Akilak". The album title track is a techno-soul excursion with an emotive feel which is reminiscent to those early Eevolute classics. ‘Exit Smiling’ is crisp and quirky groove with a twinkling and seductive melody. Following on is the electro-boogie cut ‘Version 4’, this discofied delight is a definite party starter and one of the album’s many highlights. This is already a favourite with Andrew Weatherall. Next is the mighty ‘Audiomer’, a penetrating cut of pure funk. This track is already being hailed as one of the techno tracks of the year and was supported by James Holden, Laurent Garnier and Craig Richards upon its release earlier this year. The jacking groove rolls relentlessly with erratic stop/starts and crazy mutant effects. Next is ‘No Love Lost’ a Hospital admission which soars with anthemic strings, underpinned with a pulsing 4/4. Following on is the raw ‘Circuit Dancer’, a slice of purist Detroit inspired electro. Their second release was ‘Bug Rider’ which has been included in all its demented glory. This mental workout is like ‘Audiomer’s’ evil twin. ‘Shake You Down’ is their most recent single and here appears in remix form from Percy himself and is a squelchy, minimal wobbler. The penultimate track is the funky, bassline driven ‘We Rock Spock’. ‘Akilak’ concludes in fine style with ‘Krockit’, a manic trip into the outer-realms of dubbed out techno.
